The Bargain in the Souk: A Reinterpretation of Arthur von Ferraris
Story and Details:
"This work is a personal reinterpretation of the famous Hungarian Orientalist painter Arthur von Ferraris (1856–1936), specifically his renowned 1890 piece, 'Driving a Bargain in Cairo,' which is now in the public domain.
The painting captures a pivotal moment of commercial life in the old Souk (market), where the wise, seated merchant meets with the standing customer to conclude a bargain. The act of haggling is presented as more than just a financial exchange—it is a social ritual and a cultural dialogue.
Oil paints were used to convey the richness and detail of the scene, focusing on the contrast between the warm, vibrant colors of the figures' traditional attire (such as the rich red and bright white) and the deep, architectural background. This reproduction includes specific artistic modifications to inject a contemporary spirit into the classic masterpiece while preserving the nostalgic and captivating atmosphere of Orientalist art."
